This stained glass sign was produced for a
restaurant in downtown Denver. It was mounted in a specially made
wooden lightbox, lit by fluorescent tubes, and hung inside the
restaurant on a prominant wall. Although this stained glass panel does
not appear to be round, it is. The outermost band of glass was too dark
to show up in this photo. You can see a hint of it in the way the hinge
on the left and the porthole latch hooks on the right stick out beyond
the porthole.
As with many commissions, I was given something to incorporate into the design. In this case, I was given a tiny cocktail napkin showing just the pelican holding the fish standing on the pylon! As with many such projects, this stained glass sign required me to start with the provided graphic and create a more complete design. These clients were very pleased with the water-like background and the porthole border, both of which added to the restaurant's decor, yet kept the cost of this artwork within their budget. I have produced many signs and logos. The medium of stained glass lends itself well to this task as it is extremely eyecatching and can be as colorful or subdued as the environment calls for. Imagine your company logo or corporate logo spanning (or hanging within) a prominent window, or mounted on a wall behind the receptionist or in the entryway of your office, restaurant, or place of business.
